This recipe is so old that it calls for “oleo” instead of margarine, every time I make this recipe I have this moment where I think “Wait, what is oleo again…?” I use butter when I bake now and the cookies turn out great, so feel free to use margarine or butter whichever you prefer!

These sugar cookies are by far my family’s favorite. They are light, and crisp and not overly sweet–although you definitely taste the sugar. They are absolutely phenomenal with a cup of steaming hot coffee…not that I’ve ever had them for breakfast, or anything like that!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Margarine or butter
  • 1 Cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 Cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Recipe:

Mix margarine, oil, sugar and powdered sugar. Add vanilla. Then add the eggs, soda, salt, flour and cream of tartar. Chill the dough for 1 hour in the refrigerator. Roll dough into 1″ balls and drop onto cookie sheet, press down the cookies to flatten with a glass you dip the bottom of into sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
